Days out in the Mourne Gullion Strangford Global Geopark
Hi, I am Duane Fitzsimons, a seventh-generation farmer's son. I take great pride in showcasing my beloved home, the Lecale peninsula, to visitors.
But what is so unique about here? As the burial place of Ireland's three patron saints, the area is rich in history and folklore dating back over 1600 years and more. I can take you to the heart of the story of Saint Patrick.
My guided tours along the Lecale Way offer a chance to explore places of battle and shipwreck, while also enjoying the verdant green landscape and cross country trails. The area is home to medieval Norman castles that still stand today, forming a ring of defense around the peninsula.
Lecale is located on the east coast of Ireland in the Mourne Gullion Strangford Global Geopark. It is one hour from Belfast and two hours from Dublin.
Broadcaster Joe Mahon introduces me in this short video. A few years ago I appeared with him on Mahon's Way broadcast on regional TV. My experiences immerse my guests in the area's unique beauty and culture. Whether it be enjoying coffee on castle battlements or experiencing the wind on the cliff tops.
A tenacious researcher I love to shed new light on ancient tales and giving them a new life. Guiding visitors around the peninsula is always an honour for me. As we say in Lecale…
